Westminster Tour Guiding course 2018-19 applications open

Special new stream for applicants who already hold a guiding qualification

The Westminster Tour Guiding course enables students to develop the knowledge and skills they need to plan, prepare and deliver engaging walking tours in the City of Westminster – the royal, political and cultural heart of London.

We are proud to announce that the Westminster Tour guiding course now offers two distinct streams: one suitable for people who are completely new to tour guiding and one for experienced tour guides who want to develop their knowledge and skills further.

On this course you will learn about the various areas of Westminster, which contain a multitude of world-famous buildings and monuments, and about many of the individuals, institutions and events related to Westminster’s heritage. You will also develop the research skills, the interpretation skills and the public-speaking and logistical skills necessary to become an effective walking tour guide.

The course involves a mixture of classroom-based sessions and practice walks in the City of Westminster. Students in the stream for beginners are assessed by means of two pieces of course work and two practical exams. Students in the stream for experienced guides are assessed by means of four pieces of course work.

The course runs from late September 2018 through to late May 2019. Applications are open now via the University of Westminster website. The official application deadline is Tuesday 31 July (although late applications may be considered) and interviews will take place between Friday 31 August and Sunday 2 September.
